Charles Bloom’s new musical, Pablo, will produce a fully orchestrated cast album this December at New York City’s Dubway Studios. Justin takes on the role of Luc Du Lac, the commercially successful and morally bankrupt chief artistic rival in Paris and the musical’s antagonist.
Successful debut filled with “passionate conviction”
Justin recently made his role debut as Bobby in Company with Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.
“…Bobby finally comes into his own, stepping forward at first tentatively – almost tearfully conveying the anguish that comes with finally understanding that what he is missing… Then Justin’s expansive tenor rises to certainty: “Being Alive” is connection to someone else. Justin’s forte is rising to forte with passionate conviction.”
Moniz joins the NYU faculty
This fall, Justin begins an appointment as Associate Director of Vocal Pedagogy and Music Assistant Professor of Vocal Performance at New York University’s (NYU) Steinhardt School, where he will teach courses in pedagogical theory and practice, applied voice, and supervise the graduate vocal pedagogy program. Prior to joining the NYU faculty, he served as Chair of Vocal Studies at Millikin University and Visiting Instructor at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Moniz lauded for “assured and commanding tenor” in Hawaii return
Moniz earned great acclaim for his performance by Big Island Music Magazine in HPAF’s season opener!
“All three of the Hollywood Hits singers are professionals who have had leading roles in a variety of operas and musicals… Moniz himself, with his assured and commanding tenor and superb acting skills, kept us breathless as he held onto a final high note; we only let out our breaths when he did.”
Moniz wins second consecutive American Prize
For the second consecutive year, Justin was named winner of The American Prize in Vocal Performance in the Men’s Professional Art Song Division.
The American Prize in Vocal Performance—Friedrich and Virginia Schorr Memorial Award recognizes and rewards the best performances by classically trained vocalists in America in 2018-19, based on submitted recordings.
Moniz praised as “mesmerizing” in Columbus Philharmonic debut
In his Columbus Philharmonic debut, Moniz was praised by the press for his “mesmerizing” performance and “great vocal control.” The Republic writes, “His lyric tenor voice was poignantly emotional, which allowed the orchestra to run the full gamut from overwhelming power to amazingly quiet sensitivity.”
Moniz “visibly wow[s]” near-capacity audience during return to Terre Haute
Moniz’s return to THSO earned rave reviews!
“Likely, though, it was guest artist Justin Moniz who most visibly wowed the near-capacity audience in Tilson Auditorium. Only 29, Moniz already inhabits the musical worlds of opera, Broadway, cabaret…He then turned ‘Angels We Have Heard On High’ into the sort of showpiece that wins the finals of ‘The Voice,’ hitting a high D-sharp that is well into soprano territory […] a dramatic ‘Bring Him Home’ from ‘Les Miserables’ (his pianissimo last notes were heartbreaking), then pulled out all the stops for the evening’s final work, ‘O Holy Night.'”
Moniz praised as an “exceptional talent”
In anticipation of his return to the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Moniz was praised for his “extraordinary talent” as showcased during the orchestra’s sold-out performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony last season. The December 1st performance includes the premiere of Dan Powers’ “new arrangement of the Gustav Holst composition “In The Bleak Midwinter” written especially for Justin Moniz.
