Dr. Justin John Moniz is an award-winning singing actor, director, vocal pedagogue, and arts leader whose work bridges performance, research, and training at the highest levels of the field. With more than 200 professional credits, he has appeared with leading organizations including Florida Grand Opera, Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, Sarasota Opera, Opera Grand Rapids, and the Chicago Symphony Center. His work spans opera, musical theater, and concert performance, earning multiple honors including three wins of The American Prize in Vocal Performance. His debut solo album, Along the Way (2021), is available on all streaming platforms.
A leading voice in contemporary vocal pedagogy, Dr. Moniz was named the 2025 Ellen Faull Master Teacher by the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He serves as Associate Director of Vocal Performance and Coordinator of Vocal Pedagogy at New York University Steinhardt, where he leads graduate training in vocal pedagogy and teaches across performance, pedagogy, and vocal wellness. His work reflects a commitment to preparing artists for the evolving demands of the profession through the integration of research, training, and performance practice.
His approach is grounded in an evidence-based methodology that integrates voice science and principles of athletic training, with a focus on vocal load, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. A NASM Certified Personal Trainer, he contributes to the field through publications in the Journal of Singing and presentations that connect research directly to studio and performance settings.
As a mentor and consultant, he works with artists and educators on career development, scholarly writing, and long-term professional strategy. His mentees have secured faculty appointments at institutions including New York University, Temple University, and Syracuse University, with their work appearing in leading peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to his academic and artistic work, Dr. Moniz serves as Executive Director of Hawai‘i Performing Arts Festival (HPAF), where he has led significant organizational growth, expanded community partnerships, and increased access to high-level training for emerging artists. Under his leadership, HPAF has received national recognition and achieved record enrollment while securing more than $2.5 million in funding.
Dr. Moniz holds a Doctor of Music in Voice Performance from Florida State University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami. His commitment to excellence in the performing arts continues to inspire and shape the next generation of artists.
