Dr. Justin John Moniz is a dynamic force in the performing arts, seamlessly blending his talents as a singing actor, director, vocal coach, and consultant. With over 200 professional credits, his performances have graced esteemed venues such as Florida Grand Opera, Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, Sarasota Opera, Opera Grand Rapids, and the Chicago Symphony Center. His versatility spans opera, musical theatre, and concert stages, regularly earning him accolades including three wins of The American Prize in Vocal Performance. His debut solo album, Along the Way (2021), is available on all streaming platforms. Moniz is a proud member of the American Guild of Musical Artists and Actors’ Equity Association.

A respected voice in the field of vocal pedagogy, Dr. Moniz was named a 2025 Master Teacher by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). He currently serves as Associate Director of Vocal Performance and Coordinator of Vocal Pedagogy at New York University’s Steinhardt School, where he is a Music Associate Professor. There, he leads the graduate vocal pedagogy program, teaches applied voice, pedagogic theory and practice, and directs the DownBeat Award-winning NYU Pop/Rock Ensemble. He also teaches Vocal Wellness & Physiology at Manhattan School of Music. Past academic appointments include Chair of Vocal Studies at Millikin University and Instructor of Opera Theater at Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

In his consultancy work, Dr. Moniz offers career mentorship, strategic planning, and guidance in scholarly writing and grant acquisition. His mentees have secured faculty positions at institutions like NYU, Temple University, and Syracuse University, with their research featured in leading journals such as the Journal of Singing and Voice and Speech Review.

An advocate for integrating voice science and sports medicine, Dr. Moniz is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. His research focuses on vocal load, efficiency, and sustainability, with publications in the Journal of Singing, including the widely read article “Regulating Vocal Load in High Impact Production.” 

In addition to his academic and artistic work, Moniz serves as Executive Director of Hawai‘i Performing Arts Festival (HPAF) on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. Under his leadership, HPAF has achieved global recognition, winning multiple awards from the National Opera Association, The American Prize, and BroadwayWorld. He has secured more than $2 million in public and private grant funding, increased the annual operating budget by nearly 40%, and led the organization to its highest student enrollment in its 20-year history.

Dr. Moniz holds a Doctor of Music in Voice Performance from Florida State University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami. His commitment to excellence in the performing arts continues to inspire and shape the next generation of artists.
