Journal of Singing publishes Justin’s article on voice assessment

Justin’s article, “Assessing Student Learning: Utilizing Objective Methods in the Voice Studio Setting,” co-authored with Theodora Nestorova, appears in the May/June issue of the Journal of Singing. In this article, the authors examine how objective tools—such as rubrics, longitudinal progress tracking, and guided self-assessment—can be thoughtfully integrated into the voice studio to support, rather than replace, artistic judgment. Responding to increased calls for clarity around student learning outcomes, they offer practical, evidence-informed strategies that help teachers balance expressive artistry with measurable accountability.
