For the second consecutive year, Justin was named winner of The American Prize in Vocal Performance in the Men’s Professional Art Song Division.

The American Prize in Vocal Performance—Friedrich and Virginia Schorr Memorial Award recognizes and rewards the best performances by classically trained vocalists in America in 2018-19, based on submitted recordings.

In his Columbus Philharmonic debut, Moniz was praised by the press for his “mesmerizing” performance and “great vocal control.” The Republic writes, “His lyric tenor voice was poignantly emotional, which allowed the orchestra to run the full gamut from overwhelming power to amazingly quiet sensitivity.”

“Likely, though, it was guest artist Justin Moniz who most visibly wowed the near-capacity audience in Tilson Auditorium. Only 29, Moniz already inhabits the musical worlds of opera, Broadway, cabaret…He then turned ‘Angels We Have Heard On High’ into the sort of showpiece that wins the finals of ‘The Voice,’ hitting a high D-sharp that is well into soprano territory […] a dramatic ‘Bring Him Home’ from ‘Les Miserables’ (his pianissimo last notes were heartbreaking), then pulled out all the stops for the evening’s final work, ‘O Holy Night.'”

In anticipation of his return to the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Moniz was praised for his “extraordinary talent” as showcased during the orchestra’s sold-out performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony last season. The December 1st performance includes the premiere of Dan Powers’ “new arrangement of the Gustav Holst composition “In The Bleak Midwinter” written especially for Justin Moniz.

The Florida State University Alumni Association recently honored 22 outstanding young alumni for their significant contributions to their profession, community, and alma mater. Moniz was selected following the review of hundreds of nominations worldwide. Congratulations to this year’s Notable Noles!

Millikin University was well represented at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Central Region Competition in Edwardsville, IL this October. Under Justin’s direction, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival’s production of The Mikado recently earned third place in the National Opera Association’s Production Competition – Division VI. Congratulations to all award winners!

The University of Miami Alumni Association recently honored 30 outstanding alumni for their impact on society. Moniz joins the company of a highly selective list of honorees including social entrepreneurs, lawyers, engineers, educators, and philanthropists.
